Why I Refused To Shake Saraki’s Hand – Remi Tinubu

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, representing Lagos central at the national assembly, has revealed her reason for ignoring the handshake gesture of Senate President Bukola Saraki during the inauguration of the eighth national assembly. She made this disclosure in an interview with a popular daily, stating that, “I had a private meeting with him for less than an hour. And I had the opportunity to tell him why I didn’t shake his hand after my inauguration as a senator. “I told him the reason. I said you deprived us from having a swearing-in ceremony. I said that was why I was angry. I said I was angry and that was it. And I have talked to him afterwards. That was the first time I would sit with him in a meeting. I have never had the opportunity.” Saraki as well as his deputy Ike Ekweremadu have however been under fire over the alleged forgery of Senate standing order used for their election. The Attorney of the Federation Abubakar Malami dragged Saraki, Ekweremadu, alongside two presiding off

Fayose Dares EFCC Over His, Dasuki’s Frozen Bank Accounts

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to make public his account statement and that of the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki. Fayose made this challenge on Sunday just about a day after granting an interview to Fresh FM in Ibadan, in which he regaled the nation with details of how he is being unjustly persecuted. The Governor, speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, in a statement on Sunday, said “What I am facing in Ekiti is a war of the elite and incidentally, it is the masses that vote people into office. We know some failed Ekiti politicians who now resume daily in EFCC office to concoct stories and give same to their commissioned newspapers to publish.‎ It is only one or two newspapers that always have their so-called exclusive stories and they follow the same pattern. “The EFCC is only engaged in mind game. They think they can wear me out, that is not possible as G

Morocco wants to rejoin African Union after 32 years

Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Sunday announced that his country wanted to rejoin the African Union, 32 years after quitting the bloc in protest at its decision to accept Western Sahara as a member. “For a long time our friends have been asking us to return to them, so that Morocco can take up its natural place within its institutional family. The moment has now come,” the monarch said in a message sent to an AU summit taking place in Kigali, the MAP Moroccan news agency reported. Morocco quit the grouping in protest in 1984 when the Saharan Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) was admitted as a member. But although Morocco left the club, “it never quit Africa”, King Mohammed said in his message to AU leaders as they began a two-day meeting in the Rwandan capital. It maintains that Western Sahara is an integral part of the kingdom even though local

They do similar thing

Fresh fuel scarcity hits aviation sector

Another round of fuel scarcity hit the aviation sector at the weekend, leaving operators struggling to keep scheduled flights running. The scarcity peaked yesterday in places like Lagos and Abuja where operators cancelled almost all flights. Meanwhile, oil marketers responsible for the importation and supply of the aviation fuel, also known as Jet-A1, have blamed the high cost of foreign exchange for the current crisis. Executive Secretary of Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Obafemi Olawole, told The Guardian that the current rate of N320 plus to one dollar being offered banks discourages importers to bring in the essential commodity. At the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos for instance, no airline was ready for boarding, leaving passengers stranded as at about 3pm yesterday before the eventual cancellation of flights. A travel agent, Abiodun, told our reporter that the airlines had continued to ration flight services

RONALDO: PORTUGAL DESERVED TO WIN EURO 2016

The forward played little part in the decider after coming off injured following a clash with Dimitri Payet, but was delighted to add an international trophy to his collection Portugal star and captain Cristiano Ronaldo praised his team for a deserved Euro 2016 success, saying they had proved their critics wrong. Eder scored a 109th-minute winner as Fernando Santos' men claimed a 1-0 victory over France in the final in Paris on Sunday. Ronaldo came off due to a knee injury in the first half, but returned to try and rally Portugal to a first major title from the sidelines. The Real Madrid forward lauded Portugal and felt they were worthy champions. "Portugal have deserved this after many years of sacrifice. No one believed in us," Ronaldo said. "I had already won everything with clubs. I lacked something with the national team." Ronaldo said he knew Lille striker Eder would score the winner. He said: "I've been in football a long time.

Quaresma replaced Ronaldo in the first half of the final against France after the captain suffered a knee injury. The Real Madrid star re-emerged from the dressing room to encourage his team-mates from the sidelines, however, and Eder's goal in extra time secured a 1-0 win and the trophy. "Even with the injury [Ronaldo] never stopped, he always supported the team and that's why I say, not just as a friend, that he is the only person I admire in football," Quaresma told O Jogo . "I admire the strength he has." He added: "We have a great captain, it is an honour to play alongside him and have him in the national team and all Portuguese people should be proud to have Cr

RONALDO GIVES NANI HIS EURO 2016 SILVER BOOT AWARD

The Valencia winger has posted on social media to thank his former Manchester United teammate for the gift following Portugal's Euro 2016 final triumph over France. What do you do with your Silver Boot award if you're Cristiano Ronaldo? Give it to Nani of course! The Real Madrid star finished second, behind Antoine Griezmann, in the race to be crowned the top scorer at Euro 2016 and Ronaldo clearly isn't interested in the runner-up gong. Valencia winger Nani took to social media following Portugal's 1-0 extra-time win over France in the final of the showpiece tournament to express his delight at Ronaldo giving him the award as a "gift". Still, Ronaldo could well need the extra space in the trophy cabinet soon, with the 31-year-old now odds-on favourite to win the 2016 Ballon d'Or.

RONALDO, SHAQIRI OR ROBSON-KANU - VOTE FOR THE UEFA EURO 2016 GOAL OF THE TOURNAMENT

.The Portugal star's leaping header proved one of the highlights of the month but faces stiff competition from a number of wonderful strikes in France Cristiano Ronaldo, Hal Robson-Kanu and Xherdan Shaqiri have made the shortlist for the UEFA EURO 2016 Goal of the tournament, presented by Carlsberg. Wales star Robson-Kanu is the front-runner for the prize after his sensational Cruyff-turn and neat finish proved the highlight of a historical night for the Welsh as they saw off Belgium 3-1 to book their first ever semi-final at a major international tournament. But Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping his sensational header against Robson-Kanu’s Wales in the semi-final will be enough to see him take home the prize to help make up for his injury disappointment in Sunday’s final. That match saw Ronaldo’s Portugal claim their first ever major title thanks to a stunning extra-time strike from substitute Eder, which is also in line for the gong. Switzerland forwar

Mexico tells Trump if he wants a wall, he can build it

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto delivers a speech during a media message at the National Palace in Mexico City on 04 July 2016. Mexico’s president hit back Sunday at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s claim that if elected, he would make Mexico build a wall along its US border. The bombastic billionaire has promised to crack down on illegal immigration and insulted Mexican immigrants by calling them rapists, criminals and drug dealers. As his party’s presumptive presidential candidate, Trump is now eyeing a clash in the November election with his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. “There is no way to have Mexico pay (for) the wall. But any decisions inside (the) USA — is a decision of its government,” Pena Nieto told CNN in English. The Mexican president earlier had said Trump’s campaign pledge was a non-starter, but he did not address the issue as specifically. Pena Nieto said US-Mexican relations were based on coordination, collaboration and cooperation on sec

RSC Reveals Major Cause Of Most Road Accidents.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Monday revealed that fake and expired tyres used by vehicle owners were responsible for most road accidents in the country. Mr Ikechukwu Igwe, the Cross River Sector Commander of FRSC, said that fake and expired tyres were responsible for more than 3,000 road crashes in the last five years. He expressed regrets that most Nigerians still prefer used tyres in spite of the regular sensitisation campaign carried out by the commission on the need to stop purchase of fake and expired tyres. “The FRSC would not relent in its sensitisation campaign with a view to educating car owners on the dangers of patronising fake and expired tyres, NAN quoted him as saying. “Fake and expired tyres are responsible for most road accidents in the country today; there is a need for drivers to stop buying such tyres. “We will intensify efforts in collaboration with the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to raid outlets that trades in fake and expired tyre

NO MORE FATALISM, LOSS OR LAMENT: RONALDO LEADS PORTUGAL INTO NEW ERA.

The Real Madrid forward was withdrawn early on in Sunday's final because of a knee injury, but his role in their victory was vital as the nation celebrate a first- ever title. Portugal rewrote their history as a footballing nation on Sunday night. A Selecao had not beaten France since 1975 and had never claimed an international trophy, so many Portuguese people expected a similar story this time. But instead, they saw a different ending. By losing the Euro 2004 final at home to Greece, Portugal looked to have blown their best opportunity of success in a major tournament. Even with 2002 World Cup winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari in charge, the team was unable to win the trophy in Lisbon and the tragedy of that loss was, in many ways, so typically Portuguese. Once one of the world's most powerful countries due to its great explorers and discoveries at sea, Portugal built an empire but fell into decadence as a nation and is struggling economically nowadays ts cu

Santos saw his team's prospects suffer a body blow when captain and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo limped out of the action with a first-half knee injury. Portugal survived Andre-Pierre Gignac hitting the post in stoppage time as the 90 minutes finished goalless. They came on strongly during the additional period and, after Raphael Guerreiro struck the crossbar with a free-kick, replacement striker Eder arrowed an unstoppable 25-yard strike into the bottom corner to spark wild celebrations. The 28-year-old flopped badly at Swansea City last season before reviving his career in France with Ligue 1 outfit Lille and Santos revealed Eder was not short of

African Citizens Will Travel Freely Around The Continent By 2018 – AU

The African Union, AU, is working to produce a common electronic passport that will grant holders visa-free access to all 54 member-countries. This was contained in a statement by the union on Wednesday. AU said the passport was a step towards the fulfilment of the continent’s aspirations as enshrined in Agenda 2063 action plan, which is “to promote greater continental integration and forge a united Africa”. AU disclosed that the passports will be distributed to all African citizens by 2018, a plan that will be discussed during a one-week summit scheduled to hold next week in Kigali, Rwanda. Continuing the statement said, “Countries such as Seychelles, Mauritius, Rwanda and Ghana, have taken the lead in ensuring easier intra-Africa travel by relaxing visa restrictions and in some cases, lifting visa requirements altogether. “The scene seems to be set to realise the dream of visa-free travel for African citizens within their own continent by 2020. “Issuance of the AU e-Passport is

REVEALED: WHAT RONALDO SAID TO BALE AFTER EURO 2016 EXIT.

The two most expensive players in the world faced off in Wednesday's semi-final, with the Portuguese coming out on top before consoling his Real Madrid team-mate at full-time Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed what he said to Gareth Bale after leading Portugal to the Euro 2016 final at the expense of Wales. Ronaldo walked straight over to his Real Madrid team-mate at full-time, with the pair sharing words and a hug, and the 31- year-old has now divuldged mostly what was said. Niger Delta Avengers’ twitter account, website shut down

The Twitter accounts and websites of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) used to announce the activities of the militants to the public have been shut down. Attempts to access the twitter account of the Avengers yesterday met with a sordid warning: “this account has been suspended”. Also, their website could not be opened as it displayed a piece of information: “The requested URL/?m=1 was not found on this server.” This is the second time the Avengers’ media accounts would be suspended. Last May, a similar thing happened to both accounts, but they were later restored. It was not clear yesterday if the account and website were closed down by government operatives or they were deliberately suspended by the Avengers for their own safety. Meanwhile, the Ijaw youths have blamed the Federal Government for the renewed hostilities by the militants. A brief statement by the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) spokesman, Eric Omare, said the Federal Government had not taken any practical step towards resol

Niger Delta Avengers attack five oil facilities

Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) yesterday claimed it had bombed two Chevron oil wells as well as three Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) trunk lines. The NNPC trunk line supplies crude oil to Warri refinery in Delta State. Two NPDC trunk lines were hit.The NNPC attack occurred hours after the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, visited some communities and sites of earlier pipeline bombings in the state. However, there are speculations that the IGP’s visit to some communities and his yet-to-be-confirmed plans to set up local security outfits may have triggered the fresh attack by the NDA. During the visit, he conducted aerial surveillance and patrol of some riverine communities which included Ugborodo, Madawo, Oporoza and Camp Five. He also conducted on-the-spot assessment and evaluation of the security situation in some flash-points in the creeks. It was also learnt that the fresh bo

The Portuguese TV channel CMTV sent two divers to recover the microphone and are now auctioning it off for charity The microphone that was thrown into a lake by Cristiano Ronaldo has been recovered by two divers. The Real Madrid star caught the headlines before Portugal’s group-stage clash with Hungary after he threw a reporter’s microphone into a lake near the team’s hotel in Lyon. The reporter, Diogo Torres, was working for Portuguese television channel CMTV, a station that Ronaldo has a long-running disagreement with. But on Saturday, CMTV confirmed that two divers, Paulo Martins and Antonio Bessone Basto, have recovered the microphone from the bottom of the lake. CMTV have also revealed that they are auctioning off the microphone and will donate the proceeds to help disabled children in Funchal – the city in which Ronaldo was born.
