RONALDO & PEPE RETURN TO REAL MADRID AFTER EURO 2016 GLORY

The Portuguese stars were given an extended break following their heroics in France this summer but began training with at the Spanish side ahead of the new season Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe have returned to training with Real Madrid following their success with Portugal at Euro 2016. The two stars were crucial for the Seleccao as they made it all the way to the final of the competition before beating hosts France after an extra-time goal from Eder. However, the pair returned to the club on Wednesday, meeting up with coach Zinedine Zidane before starting work in training. Ronaldo picked up an injury in the first half of the Euros final and has been recovering over the course of the summer, but is still expected to miss Los Blancos' first game of the season, in which they face Real Sociedad. The 31-year-old, alongside Gareth Bale, missed his side's UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla on Tuesday, but congratulated his team-mates on social media afterwards.

Morocco wants to rejoin African Union after 32 years

Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Sunday announced that his country wanted to rejoin the African Union, 32 years after quitting the bloc in protest at its decision to accept Western Sahara as a member. “For a long time our friends have been asking us to return to them, so that Morocco can take up its natural place within its institutional family. The moment has now come,” the monarch said in a message sent to an AU summit taking place in Kigali, the MAP Moroccan news agency reported. Morocco quit the grouping in protest in 1984 when the Saharan Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) was admitted as a member.
